This report came as it commenced training of 998 drivers of LAGBUS on accident prevention skills. Mr. Babatunde Disu, Managing Director, LAGBUS, disclosed this at the training for the fourth batch of LAGBUS captains at the Public Service Public Service Staff Development Centre, PSSDC Magodo. He said the firm is committed to creating a modern, secure and sustainable bus transportation service in Lagos and not leaving out women in this campaign.
Mr. Seyi Osiyemi, General Manager for fleet operation, LAGBUS, explained the reason for this move for female drivers by saying, “We employed the female drivers to encourage the women who have interest in driving the LAGBUS buses. These 80 female have started their training on driving from the basics. These ladies do not have driving experience. We will first train them on how to drive car. After that, they will graduate to smaller buses; after which they will learn how to drive the big bus”.
He added, “We expect this process to take between 3- 6 months. The ultimate plan is to have them driving the LAGBUS, the red bus. It takes a lot of time for people to embrace it”.

When asked about the number of applicants that applied for the job, he said; “We had about 200 women who filled application forms, so we short-listed and started with these first 80. We are also recruiting more males because we are refurbishing 180 buses which will be added to the fleet”.

difficulties pops in fishing out Igwe's killer —Lagos CP

Challenges pops up as investigation on Mr Dimgba Igwe who was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver three weeks ago in Ago-Okota area of the state, statement issued by the Lagos State Police Command yesterday.
58 years old man was jogging down the street when he was hit down by this vehicle, he was then moved to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, for surgical emergency, unfortunately, he did not survive.
Late Igwe
Late Igwe
We're finding it difficult to fish out Igwe's killer —Lagos CP
CP
Intensified efforts has been made to apprehend the killer driver but no head way yet, disclosed by the CP, Kayode Aderanti. This difficulty arises from the fact that there has been some inability to get information from eye-witnesses. Quoted from his sayings, He said “My presence at the Sun Publishing Limited shows the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police over the death of the veteran journalist. I have transferred the case to SCID for a thorough and comprehensive investigation because I want to take it beyond mere hit-and-run. I have even involved operatives of SARS. I am using this medium to appeal to members of the public to avail us with information because we tried to identify the kind of vehicle that knocked him down. So far, the information we have is scanty. That brings to mind the culture of having Closed-Circuit Television, CCTV, in our houses. This should not be left to government alone. Individual houses should also learn to install them in their premises. If we had CCTV around, somebody, somewhere would have captured the incident and within 24 hours, we would have been able to solve this issue.”

However, he urges the killer driver to come forward and give himself to the police. He recalled similar incident in Area ‘A’ some time ago, where the driver showed up by himself in his office then, saying he was the one that hit the person in question. He said he had not been able to sleep since the incident occurred.
Meantime, the CP also admonished illegal arms owners in Lagos State to surrender their weapons within two weeks or face the wrath of the law; giving this order while speaking to journalists at the command headquarters in Lagos.

We killed Shekau in Nigeria - Cameroon Military

An argument pops up between Nigeria and Cameroun concerning the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau yesterday.
The Cameroonian army (Armee Camerounaise) made public photos of the killed leader, claiming that they were involved in a cross-border raid deep inside Nigeria.
According to Cameroon Concord, said on Sunday night that Shekau was killed following an aerial bombardment of his hideout deep inside Nigeria from a Cameroonian military source.
SHEKAU
SHEKAU
The Nigerian Army on the other hand is also laying claim on the death of the leader, that they killed him in Konduga, a town some kilometers away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
DHQ tweeted yesterday that, “there was no raid whatsoever in any part of Nigeria’s territory in pursuit of terrorists as claimed in some reports allegedly quoting Cameroon military authorities. All operations on-going in the environs of Konduga and all associated border locations within the country are completely being undertaken by Nigerian troops.”
This may be a mistakenly identity for Shekau, since Isa Damsaka or Bashir Mohammed who are also top leaders have also been parading themselves as Him.
The exchange of the abducted Chibok school girls with Boko Haram prisoners has received some setbacks now. Meanwhile, the Nigerian military claimed that they might have killed Shekau on September 17 during a desperate attempt by Him and his sects to capture Konduga as part of their plot to eventually go for Maiduguri.
The military revealed, “It is getting more certain that the terrorist commander who has been mimicking Shekau in those videos is the one killed in Konduga on September 17, 2014”. And also cautioned that “the process of confirming the dead body we have is the same as that character who has been posing as Shekau is ongoing. He is definitely a prominent terrorist commander. I don’t want to say anything about this yet, please.”
In other statement, a top government official said: “Boko Haram commanders suddenly demanded an equal man-to-man exchange instead of the agreed total girls for 16 Boko Haram prisoners. Also, of the 16 prisoners, not all of them could be traced by the government side. The exchange of the Chibok girls with the Boko Haram prisoners was to take place at an agreed location in Yola, the Adamawa State capital. But the true position of things as of today is that the talks have broken down”. Answering a question, He said that Nigeria opted to bring in the International Committee of the Red Cross as a facilitator because of its neutrality and competence in facilitating such exchange of prisoners in many parts of the world.

EVD te set confusion in our educational sector

Confusion set-in about resumption date of both primary and secondary schools, as some state government goes against the date set by the federal government.
Ebola: Confusion over schools' resumption
The Nigeria Union of Teachers has earlier stated that schools should not follow the directive of the government, until they are through with the protective measures for EVD for schools.
Abia, Kano, Bayelsa, Imo, Anambra, Bauchi, Benue and Kaduna are states that schools are scheduled to resume today. However, states that have directed their schools to resume on various dates in October include Lagos, Osun, Ogun, and Niger.
The Abia State Government said they made available all protective measures for pupils, which made them followed the FG directives. The state commissioner of Education, Mrs. Monica Philips said the teachers have been given necessary training and required materials like infra-red thermometers and sanitizers to prevent any outbreak.
Lagos schools now to resume Oct 8 has directed by Governor Babatunde Fashola, rather than today, September 22. He said the additional two weeks would allow for more time to further put in place all necessary precautionary measures against Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Lagos State schools.
In Niger state, schools have been directed to resume on Monday October 13 for the new session while those in the Boarding schools are expected to resume on Friday, October 10. Governor Babangida Aliyu, who disclosed this when a delegation of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, those of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC and National Examination Council, NECO paid him a courtesy visit.

All Federal Government Colleges in Imo State re-open today, while Imo State Government schools to resume September 29, 2014 as directed by the state government.
pupils-in-Lagos-schools-11
The Ogun State Government has slated Wednesday, October 8, as the new resumption date for both public and private primary and secondary schools in the state. This statement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa in order to prevent outbreak of EVD when the pupils resume.
October 6 was convenient for the Osun State Government  to allow her pupils go back to school for learning so as to allow principals and teachers receive adequate training and government put in place all necessary measures to prevent Ebola virus in the state.
Both private and public primary and secondary Schools in Kaduna State are to resume today, Deputy Governor and Chairman Kaduna State  Ebola Monitoring and Preventive Committee, Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga made it clear to press men that the state has put in place every preventive measure in all schools.

EVD, a treat with Fash after survival

Governor, Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state, yesterday September 18th, at his office at the state Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, gave some Ebola survivors a treat.  They made statements that the disease wasn’t a death sentence.
The survivors in attendance included the widow of late Port Harcourt doctor, Dr Emenuo Kelechi (left), Dr Ibeawuchi Morris (second left), Dr Fadipe Akinniyi (centre), Mr. Dennis Akagha (late Nurse Justina Ejelonu's fiance) and Dr Adaora Igonoh.
Dr. Ibeabuchi Morris said he was the first to receive late Sawyer at the hospital where he was first treated for Malaria.
He said after the patient continued to have high temperature, he took the blood sample and sent it to the laboratory, then contacted Dr. Stella Adadevoh who advised him to continue attending to the patient pending the arrival of the test result. EVD positive was confirmed and Sawyer died a few days later.
After 12 days, symptoms started manifesting, continue rise in temperature above 38.5 degrees Celsius. He then reported to Lagos State Ministry of Health and contact with his family was henceforth stop.
Decontamination was carried out at his house and he experience continuous temperature rise above 40 degrees. He was then moved to the isolation Centre. However, he thanks all those involved in taking care of him during that period.
Another survivor, Dr. Adaora Igonoh, thanked the Governor and the Government for their fight against the spread of the disease which made it possible for some victims, including her to survive.
Dr. Igonoh, a staff of First Consultants Hospital, commends the hospital and staff for the risk they took to ensure that the disease did not spread beyond the limit it did. She also paid tribute to those who lost their lives, adding that without their sacrifice, the story would probably have been different.
Also at the treat, Mr. Dennis Akagha, fiancee to Justina Akagha, a nursing staff of First Consultants Hospital who died days after attending to Patrick Sawyer, said he got to hear about his fiancee's contact with Sawyer when the death of the Liberian was announced on television. She later told him she'd treated Sawyer.
He said when the symptoms of the disease started manifesting in Justina, they first thought it was pregnancy induced or Malaria because she'd told him she wore protective gloves while attending to Sawyer. He said that on the 14th day, Justina's condition worsened and he took her to First Consultants from where he was directed to the Isolation Centre in Yaba where she later passed on.
He disclosed that he did not immediately go to hospital when he started manifesting the symptoms until he started vomiting and feeling dehydrated. He said he was finally taken to the Isolation Centre where he was treated and discharged after he tested negative of the virus.
Other survivors at the treat were Dr. Fadipe Akinniyi, also a staff of First Consultants Hospital and Dr. (Mrs.) Kelechi Emenuo, wife of late Dr. Emenuo, who treated one of Mr. Sawyer’s companions in Port Harcourt and later died of the disease.

“It is a thing of pride for us as Nigerians to be identified with a positive global success rather than being seen as a terrorist country.
“It is gladding that we are doing better and excellently well in other areas of life,” Bantu said.
In a separate interview, Mrs Esther Onwuka, a lecturer at the University of Abuja, expressed happiness that Nigerian artistes were making progress as well as projecting Nigeria’s name positively.

“I am bound to make it with all that I am seeing in the industry. I see a lot of people that challenge me with their skills and success in the entertainment world.
“I am extremely focused and determined in the pursuit of my musical career and with God, I know I can make it like other Nigerian artistes.
“I will get to the top like Tiwa Savage, Bovi, Davido and many others,’’ he said.

Boko Haram installs new Emir in Bama
THE Senate, yesterday, canvassed tougher and full scale measures to end the Boko Haram insurgency. It said that the sect has declared war on Nigeria.
The senators, who resumed from their two-month vacation, expressed dissatisfaction with how the war was being prosecuted and mandated the Senate leadership to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan and service chiefs to hammer out better strategies to checkmate the insurgents.
President Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President, Sen. David Mark
President Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President, Sen. David Mark
Senator Mark, in his welcome speech said  actions of the Boko Haram sect are a complete declaration of war geared towards undermining the nation’s sovereignty.
Meantime, the Senate has referred President Jonathan’s $1 billion loan request to fight insurgency to its committees on Foreign, Finance, and Local Debt to report back within one week.
Senator Mark in his speech also said the Senate was waiting for Mr. President’s action on the report of the just concluded National Conference which was convoked to discuss and suggest ways of resolving perceived structural defects in the polity.
The Senate President further tasked the President to ensure the 2015 Appropriation Bill gets to the legislative chamber before the end of the month to enable the lawmakers pass it into law before January 2015.
He noted that the escalation of violence and the heinous crimes  being carried out on daily basis by the insurgents including the declaration of a caliphate had reached alarming proportions.

Dissatisfied with the strategy being adopted in prosecuting the war against the terrorists, the Senate in a resolution sequel to the motion sponsored by Senate Leader, Chief Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, and 107 other senators, had after critically examining the ongoing onslaught against the people of the North-East by Boko Haram, mandated the Senate President to meet with President Jonathan to discus better tactics on how to tackle the insurgency.
In the motion tagged: Threat to National Sovereignty and Territorial integrity of Nigeria by insurgents, the senators expressed worry that the security situation in the North East states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa had continued to deteriorate despite the imposition of state of emergency in the said states.
The Senate had equally observed that in the last two months while the National Assembly was on its annual recess, the nation witnessed unabated loss of lives and damage to property in what it noted was increasingly challenging the security agencies in the affected states.
The Senate expressed concern that the insurgents purportedly carved out some local government areas in Borno and Adamawa states and declared same as Caliphate under their control just as it expressed concern that the level of regrouping of the insurgence was becoming alarming.
The Senate President, while reacting to the concern of senators said: “We have to find a solution to it, back the military, mobilize as much as we can, bring back all our war resources together so that we can prosecute this war. There is no way in which we are just going to say that this is exclusively to one section of this country. No, and I don’t think that is the thinking in any quarter.
“Unfortunately, we are not satisfied with the way the war has been prosecuted so far. We want a better strategy, we want a very concise, very precise statement that can give directions on how we are going to prosecute this war and end it as quickly as possible.
“It is not the question of election. Election is not even on the table now. So I agree that what is happening now is a challenge even to our legitimacy in this chamber because if they have gone far by saying that they have declared a caliphate, then any senator or member who is from there is no more entitled to be in this chamber.
“And these people can forcefully begin to take some people out of this chamber, and then the legitimacy of our own existence here is seriously challenged. There are so many issues that will arise as a result of what Boko Haram is doing. It started like a joke but it has gone far beyond that now.
“All of us here cannot go and wear uniform and take rifle and fight. It is the Armed Forces that are going to do the fighting for us but all of us here have roles to play in executing this war. Let me say without any doubt at all, that the nation is at war, that is the issue. So it is not about whether it is Boko Haram or not Boko Haram. There is no difference between the situation in the North East now and if any other country had declared war on Nigeria.
“My suggestion here is: How do we prosecute this war because there is a real war for us, whether it is on one section of the country or it’s covering the whole country. So, once a nation is at war, the entire nation will have to move all its resources and war efforts, whether it is refugee, whether it is medical or anything at all.
“So, indeed, there is no doubt in my mind that what the Boko Haram is doing now is that they have declared war on Nigerians. It is true we didn’t recall the Senate but you are aware that we directed the Senate Committee on Defence to meet with Service Chiefs when we were on recess so that we can get a proper briefing.
“We have a dilemma on our hands here because there is a limit to what we can say here in plenary and what we can discuss in a closed-door session. So, we have to be a bit careful.”
Insurgency in North East can affect 2015 elections
Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu warned that if drastic action was not taken to tackle headlong the activities of Boko Haram, it would derail the 2015 elections.
Senator Ekweremadu stated that Section 180 of the constitution provides that “if the Federation is at war in which the territory of Nigeria is physically involved and the President considers that it is not practicable to hold elections, the National Assembly may by resolution extend the period of four years mentioned in Sub-section 2 of this Section from time to time, but no such extension shall exceed a period of six months at any one time.”
Furthermore, Ekweremadu said:
“If we don’t resolve the problem in the North-east, we may not have elections in 2015 because Section 180(3) of the Constitution says if the country is at war, there may not be elections. Of course, the country is at war now. Democracy is being rolled back in North-east. It is very important as the Senate to take a firm stance to resolve this problem.”
Also supporting Ekweremadu’s position, the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Abdul Ningi wondered why the country would be facing serious security threat from the Boko Haram sect and some people were going on with political activities.
In apparent reference to the ongoing rally by the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN, Senator Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP said, “Section 2 of the Constitution says Nigeria shall be one indivisible nation. Many houses and villages are no longer parts of this country. Fighting this war is more important than any other thing. There should be suspension of electioneering activities until these wars are over. People are so disturbed and have been disenfranchised and some areas are no longer part of this country…All electioneering activities should be suspended until this war is over.”
Senator Bello Tukur representing Adamawa Central said:
“It took Boko Haram less than 10 days to move into five local governments. The problem we have now I believe is the lack of understanding of security agencies on how Boko Haram is operating. I have interacted with some people and they said the number of Boko Haram people operating in that area is not more than 100 and yet they are able to chase the military away.”
Boko Haram installs new Emir in Bama
Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno North disclosed that the sect, on Monday, installed another Emir in Bama, a development he said was an affront on the sovereignty of the country.
Senator Ndume noted that when the Boko Haram sect started its operation, the number of members was not up to 100 and the members did not have AK47 that was available to the Nigeria’s security  forces with many battalions but the country was not serious in fighting the insurgents.
He said: “Yesterday in Bama, a new emir was installed by the Boko Haram. Recently, we reluctantly under your leadership (Mark’s)and I will say maybe, under your influence or instruction, conceded to the third or fourth state of emergency. The reason then was that if we didn’t approve the state of emergency, the situation then would get out of hand. Would it get out of hand than what it is today? In those days, when we approved the first and second state of emergency, our soldiers were not running away, but the story before us today is that our soldiers are forced to abandon their duty posts not only to run back to their headquarters, but to move in to another country-Cameroon.
“We all know that Cameroon, as a country is not more than Lagos and Ogun states combined. So that means their strength cannot be more than Lagos and Ogun.  And we have the army strength of more than 100,000 and I strongly believe that these Boko Haram members, even with the conscripted ones cannot be more than 10,000. But if you see the things that they did when they took over Gwoza, from the report I received, you would not imagine that the act was perpetrated by such insignificant number of insurgents.
“These Boko Haram boys, initially, many of them didn’t have even guns. I know you don’t send a soldier to any assignment without at least an AK-47. So if less than 100 people with less than 100 AK-47 would chase away 500 soldiers with AK-47, abandoning their APC, ammunition and everything, then you should know that something is wrong.”
Mark’s speech
In his speech, Mark said among others:
“The escalation of violence and the heinous crimes daily perpetrated by insurgents and terrorists including the declaration of a Caliphate has reached alarming proportions. Regrettably, the Boko Haram sect, these harbingers of death have become more emboldened and daring, killing innocent Nigerians and destroying property at will.
“From abductions, kidnappings and bombings, the situation has now degenerated to capturing and occupying some parts of Nigeria. In what is obviously intended to humiliate us as a sovereign nation and test our resolve, the terrorists have brazenly hoisted their flags to confirm their assault and affront on our collective will as a nation.
“My dear colleagues, to put it otherwise is to shy away from the truth. In my candid opinion, the Boko Haram sect has in no unmistakable terms declared a total war on Nigeria and Nigerians. Their ideology is alien to our culture. We must as a people and nation handle this situation with all the seriousness it deserves.
“I have consistently advocated dialogue as the needed panacea to this malaise. Sure, dialogue must not be ruled out but this time around, with this scale of warfare, we must first demonstrate our strength, confront and defeat these terrorists and insurgents before we resort to dialogue.
“I am yet to come to terms with what the Boko Haram Sect actually wants.  And I dare ask: What offence has the Chibok girls or any other school child, a market woman or artisan struggling to earn a living committed that he or she deserves to be felled and decimated daily by the bombs and arsenals of these insurgents?
“This war has certainly come to our door-steps. As Senators of the Federal Republic, destiny has entrusted us to be at the helm of affairs today. We must all rise to the current challenge. The government must be supported fully by this Senate to confront the challenge head-long.
“Therefore, we must devise a better strategy to win this war at the earliest possible time. We must come out with clear, concise and unequivocal mission statement on how to win this war.
“As I have repeatedly said, we must as a matter of urgency, fish out the financiers of these terrorists and all collaborators wherever they are, and bring them to book. My appeal to you, my bosses, is to continue to provide the necessary legislative framework that is needed to win this war.
“Except to pretend and say otherwise, Nigerians are frustrated and presently appear helpless over the unfolding events. They watch in total disbelief and shock at the activities of the Boko Haram.
“But we must reassure them that they are not alone in this. We are indeed doing all we can to protect and secure their lives and property. As a responsible government, we will not tolerate this subversion of our sovereignty.
“It is reprehensible and totally unacceptable. The life of every Nigerian is very important to us and must be held sacrosanct. Total security is sine qua non to our existence.
“Obviously, these are trying times. We must not, under any circumstances, play politics with our collective security. This is not the time to wilfully castigate or criticize our armed forces and security operatives. We must not trade blames or pass the buck.
“We must not stand divided along any real or perceived fault lines. We must not abandon the dreams of our founding fathers and their belief in one united, indivisible and indissoluble democratic nation. We must not condone religious intolerance.
“We must not cave in to the rigid and bigoted views espoused by these terrorists. We must not succumb to intimidation, blackmail and threat under any extremist ideology.
“This is the time to stand united, rally round and encourage our armed forces and security operatives. They are our dear compatriots who have chosen to lay down their lives so that we all may live in peace.
“This is the time to give them maximum support so that they will be motivated to prosecute and win this needless war in the shortest possible time. We must also mobilize all our war efforts and resources. This nation is greater than these evil merchants.”
On Ebola
The Senate President further said that another issue that was of great national importance was the outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.
He said: “Another issue of grave national and international concern is the unfortunate outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus. As if the man-made peril posed by insurgency and terrorism was not terrible enough, a new molecular peril with a potentially more profound lethality arrived from neighbouring Liberia in July.
Sawyer was
irresponsible — Mark

“Although our customs forbid us from speaking ill of the dead, I must say, I deplore the conduct of this vile and irresponsible visitor, Patrick Sawyer. His condemnable action has left a huge burden and everlasting scar on the nation.
“However, what is reassuring is that government has been able to contain further spread of the epidemic. One useful lesson from the outbreak of the Ebola Virus is that Nigerians are now more conscious of their personal hygiene.
“This notwithstanding, Government at all levels must now leverage on this preventive measure to check further spread. What this ultimately calls for is good and implementable health care delivery system in Nigeria.
“As schools resume for the new academic session, it is incumbent on all heads of educational institutions to make adequate arrangement to ensure that the Ebola Virus does not in any way spread within the precincts of their schools and put the lives of our children in danger.
“Our hearts go out to the valiant health workers and caregivers who are consistently battling to contain the spread of this disease. We commend the Federal and State governments for the prompt and decisive actions they have so far instituted to stem the spread.
“It is imperative to commend the late Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh, Consultant Physician, for her bravery. But for her being proactive, the late Patrick Sawyer would have spread the virus beyond our imaginations.
“She is indeed a heroine. She deserves a national posthumous honour, and should be duly recognized and honoured by this nation. I pray that God Almighty grants her soul, and those of other caregivers who paid the supreme prize, eternal rest.
“We commend the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) for calling off its strike action. I did intervene on your behalf, my distinguished colleagues, while you were on recess.”
Senator Mark said there was an opportunity beckoning on the 7th Senate to make history and keep a date with destiny, adding that the current legislative agenda contained so many crucial items which could fundamentally reshape our country.”
Legislative  calendar
He also spoke on other tasks before the legislators.
“We have on our legislative calendar the Petroleum Industry Bill, Pensions Reforms (Amendment) Bill, Customs (Amendment) Bill,  Immigration Repeal & Re-enactment) Bill, Public Procurement Act (Amendment) Bill, Proceeds Of Crimes Bill, National Automotive Industry Development Plan (Fiscal Incentives and Assurances), FCT.
“Area Council (Political Structural) Bill, National Health Bill, Labour Institutions Bill, Bio-Safety Management Bill, Agricultural Processing Zones Bill, further review of the Electoral Act, harmonization of the Senate and House positions on the proposals for the further amendment of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and consideration of the 2015 budget estimates, amongst others.”
“I cannot overemphasize the importance of passing the Petroleum Industry Bill (P.I.B) as quickly as possible. Both operators and watchers of Nigeria’s petroleum Industry are in agreement that this vital sector is in dire need of reforms and a new template that will enthrone these essential reforms is an urgent imperative.
“Every informed player in the industry that I have interacted with holds the view that one imperishable legacy the 7th Senate can leave behind is the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill. Not only will it engender greater transparency in the operations of the oil and gas industry, it will also enable our country to maximize the benefits derivable from this God given resource.
“As the 2014 fiscal year draws to a close, we expect that the appropriation bill arrives this chamber before the end of this month. This will enable us work on the budget and pass it into Law before January 2015.

Jailer crooner, Busola Elemide popularly known as Asa has dropped a new album titled ‘Bed of Stones’. The Album ‘Bed of Stones’ which released days ago on Deluxe CD’s, Vinyl and Vendors Worldwide has been available for pre-order on iTunes.com since 25th of August
asa1Songs in the album were born from her life and the shock she felt coming off the road in 2012, after an incredibly long tour. “I  needed time to pull myself together. I toured for 2 years, gave everything I had every single night.
I had been the girl that was full of life, force and energy that people looked at for 2 hours on stage, and then congratulated backstage after the show. But I was going home alone, never really realizing how exhausting all that actually is…”. Said Asa
asa1
After her last tour, she just couldn’t stay home, so she traveled and she wrote. Lagos, Berlin, the USA, London, Paris…” I wanted to feel human again. Meet new people and do everything I always wanted to do before I hit 30. I wanted to learn to swim, rent a car and drive from Nashville to New York and from New York to Los Angeles and I wanted to learn to skateboard and drive a motorcycle”.
Asa’s life is part of her songs as much as our life is part of her songs; the inexhaustible subject that is love, the spiritual calling, the need to party or to simply share a cup of tea with two friends. “These experiences didn’t necessarily make it into my songs, but they served a purpose. It’s all there! But “I’ve matured,” says the soon to be 32 year-old artist as the world enjoys her new offering.

Missing jet: We should be able to provide credible information soon – Amosu By Ben Agande

The Chief of  Air Staff, Air Marshall Ademola Amosu has said that the Air Force has credible information on where the Alpha Jet which crashed while on a mission in North-eastern part of the country may be.
An Air Force jet with two pilots on board, while on a mission from Yola to Maiduguri, disappeared from radar since Friday and a search and rescue operation has been dispatched to locate and rescue the pilots.
Speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with Vice President Namadi Sambo, the Air Force chief said the inclement weather in the area has hampered search operations but added that citizens around the area of operation have provided useful information on its possible location.

According to him: “One of our Alpha Jets went on routine operation in the North East and lost contact with the control towers and that made us to immediately initiate search. The weather has not been helpful as we have deployed all our surveillance capability, the citizens have been very, very helpful and we have gotten good information from them. But you know, in the aviation sector, we have some specific information that we ought to have to make the search easy.
“But the information we are getting from the citizens are good but not sufficient enough for us to define the area of search. But we have an idea of where the aircraft could be. Do not forget that it is the open Sahel. Some people may think it is easy but in the open Sahel, sometimes, it is even very challenging. Human beings standing may look like trees and again the area we are talking about we have operations going on there and we have limitations as to how low we come to conduct the search. I am hopeful that before the end of the week we should be able to provide credible information as to the location of the aircraft and then the pilots” he said.
He, however, ruled out the possibility of a sabotage, saying that the Air Force was in charge of the airspace where the incidence happened.
According to the Air Force chief,  although details of what happened were unclear, “one thing is clear, whatever problem they had, an ejection was contemplated, it is therefore my hope that the pilots are still alive.
“There was no Sabotage because it is a distance of just from Maiduguri to Yola. We are in full control of the air space. But don’t forget that when you lose radio signal it becomes very challenging. There are so many possibilities but we are working on it”, he said.
It would be recalled that  farmers in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State were quoted in the media to have claimed that they saw a low-flying aircraft that may have crashed at a place near Gabun, a mountainous village in the local council, three days ago.
The farmers claimed that they saw a “low-flying jet” matching the description of the missing Alpha jet after its disappearance on Friday.

2 Nigerians with $9.3m cash held in S-Africa

Two Nigerians and an Israeli citizen are presently being held by South African police for attempting to illegally bring $9.3m cash into the country. South Africa’s City Press newspaper reported that the accused persons brought the money which is in bundles of unused $100 bills, packed in three suitcases in a small business jet, a Bombardier Challenger 600 with a Nigerian crew.
According to the report, the jet departed Abuja on September 5 and when it arrived South Africa, Customs officers became suspicious when the passengers’ luggage was unloaded and put through the scanners just after 7pm.

The officers then investigated and found three suitcases full of cash. The passengers then told customs officials that they were acting on behalf of the Nigerian intelligence services and provided documentation to confirm that they had come to South Africa to buy weapons for Nigerian security services. It was not clear whether the Israeli passenger was an intelligence operative or an arms dealer.
Spokesperson of the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Marika Muller in a statement, said the money was seized at Lanseria airport, northwest of Johannesburg. The statement said: “The passengers’ luggage was searched after Customs officials detected irregularities. The money was detained as it was undisclosed/undeclared and above the prescribed legal limit. The funds are being held at the central bank as police investigate”.
Also, South African airport security spokesman Solomon Makgale confirmed that police investigation was on-going but declined to give further details.
The National Conventional Arms Control Committee, which has to approve the import and export of any weapons as well as issue permits for such transactions, was not aware of any applications in this case.
The Nigerian security service is yet to respond to inquiries for confirmation of the story.
The aircraft according to investigation used to belong to the American healthcare company Kimberly-Clark. But company spokesperson Bob Brand said the firm had sold the plane years ago, and denied that it had anything to do with the incident. According to the US Federal Aviation Administration aeroplane register, the Challenger, with the registration number N808HG, was re-registered in the name of Bank of Utah Trustee last year. The address in the register was given as Salt Lake City, US.
Aviation industry insiders claim similar “owners” have previously been involved in several controversial financing transactions for aircraft in Africa. City Press has also established that the aircraft is used by an entity called Swat Inc in Abuja, but no details of such a company could be found.
Another plane used by Swat Inc, a Hawker-Siddeley 125, also with an American registration number (N497AG), landed at Lanseria Airport last month. That plane and its passengers remained in the country for two days before returning to Abuja on August 13.

What Surulere was all about — Dr. Sid

Dentist turned singer, Dr Sid, born Sidney Onoriode Esiri, son of late legendary actor, Justus Esiri is definitely having himself a ball with life. Aside his booming career, the singer just married the love of his life, Simi Osomo and the icing on the cake came for him when telecom giant, MTN slammed him with a multimillion naira ambassadorial deal.
Dr Sid
The cool-headed singer who confided in Potpourri that he is having a blissful marriage experience said the Mavin crew are all a big family.
Also speaking on his hit single Surulere, the singer told us the inspiration behind the song. “Obviously some people were mistaking Surulere thinking we were talking about Surulere, the area. It does work on two levels” he said
We hail the people from Surulere because even I, as an artiste, when I started out in music with Trybe Records, we were based in Surulere. Surulere basically means ‘Patience is rewarding’ and it’s just a song that describes the journey of Dr Sid; Where I’ve been, where I’m at right now, where I’m going to, that’s the idea. We’re trying to create a song that could capture that experience and we also wanted to make a song that people can relate to. When you listen to the song it speaks to something in your soul and hopefully, it would inspire you and motivate you to push and keep working harder”.
