University of Ibadan graduates 222 first class

On Monday, November 17 at the convocation ceremony at the university of Ibadan witness the graduation of 222 students with first class Degree, with a total number of 7,786 graduating students receive their first degree certificates. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Adewole during his address said that due to strike action embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in 2013, the convocation ceremony could not hold.

Goodluck Jonathan commends universities for fund usage

illegal Universities shut down by NUC, check if u are studying in any?

Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) made it known on Wednesday in Abuja, some illegal universities in the country. The publication signed by the NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie, had the following universities as illegal;
• National University of Nigeria, Keffi, Nasarawa State
• North Central University, Otukpo, Benue State
• Volta University College, Aba, Abia State
Also declared the following ones as illegal satellite campuses of Ambrose Alli University;
• Christ Alive Christian Seminary and University, Enugu
• Richmond Open University, Arochukwu,Abia State
• West Coast University, Umuahia
• Saint Clements University, Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State
“In addition to the closure, the following `Degree Mills’ are currently undergoing court actions; the purpose of these actions is to prosecute the proprietors and recover illegal fees and charges on subscribers. For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronizes or obtains any certificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk. Certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognized for the purposes of NYSC, employment and further studies.’’ He said.
The bulletin also listed 55 illegal universities which had not been licensed and were closed down for violating the Education Act of 2004. NAN recalls that NUC recently handed over two alleged fake professors to the police for prosecution.

2014 WAEC: Our students’ failure is our nation’s failure —Atiku By Henry Umoru

ABUJA — FORMER Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, yesterday, attributed mass failure recorded by Nigerian students in the May/June 2014 West African Examinations Council to the non-chalant attitude of government to education from primary to university level.
He described failure of the students as the nation’s failure.
According to him, the failure of the students is no surprise to anyone, in view of the series of strikes suffered by the school system in the country.

Atiku in a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Abuja, said:   “The West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, has just released the results of the May/June 2014 Senior School Certificate Examination.  As was the case last year, mass failure was recorded by Nigerian students.
“Only 31.28 per cent of the students who sat for the 2014 exam obtained credits in five subjects and above, including Mathematics and English Language.
“No one who has been observing the ongoing attitude towards education in Nigeria will be surprised by this. In the past year alone, industrial action by teachers have dominated the news headlines.   Primary school teachers in Benue State, for example, embarked on an eight-month strike to demand better conditions and allowances.
“Teachers all over Nigeria remain poorly paid, with several jokes being peddled about how parents are reluctant to allow their daughters marry teachers.
“In addition to poor welfare, teachers in the Northeast of Nigeria face a peculiar challenge not common to their colleagues in other parts of the country.
The National Union of Teachers, NUT, reports that the organisation has so far lost about 173 of their members to Boko Haram terrorist attacks.
“Sadly, with the Nigerian government not yet able to adequately protect citizens from these random attacks, that number could easily increase.
“There is also the issue of competence of Nigerian teachers.Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State recently lost his seat in a re-election bid with poll results that sent shock waves across the nation, notwithstanding his well-publicised record of high performance.
“One of the reasons political analysts have given for his rejection by Ekiti people was his attempt to improve the quality of teachers in the state by putting them through competency tests.   “Teachers in Kwara and Edo states also resisted similar tests.”

Mass failure as WAEC releases results BY DAYO ADESULU

The West Africa Examination Council, WAEC has released its May/June 2014 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, recording mass failure in Mathematics and English Language.
Announcing the results, Monday, at WAEC office, Yaba, the Head of National Office, WAEC, Mr. Charles Eguridu said: “A total of 529,425 candidates, representing 31.28%, obtained credits in five (5) subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.”
He noted that when compared to the 2012 and 2013 May/June WASSCE diets, there was marginal decline in the performance of candidates as 38: 81 per cent  was recorded in 2012 and 36.57 per cent in 2013.
Eguridu who disclosed that the results of 145,795 candidates, representing 8.61%, are being withheld in connection with various types of examination malpractice said, “The cases are being investigated and the reports of the investigations will be presented in November to the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC).”
According to him, out of 1,692,435 candidates that sat for the examination,  791,227 candidates, representing 46.75%, obtained 6 credits and above, just as a total of 982,472 candidates representing 58.05%, obtained 5 credits and above.
In addition, he stated that 1,148,262 candidates, representing 67.84 %, obtained credits and above in 4 subjects, while 1,293,389 candidates, representing 76.42%, obtained credits and above in 3 subjects.

IBBU 2014/2015 Post-UTME Cut-off mark Screening and Registration Details

This is to invite all candidates who chose IBB University, Lapai, as their Most Preferred Institution (First Choice) in the 2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to the admission screening exercise.

The University does not intend to conduct Post UTME Examination. The policy is rather to confirm and authenticate the credentials of candidates before admission. Arrangements have been concluded with all Examination Bodies to verify all candidates’ results.

ELIGIBILITY
The following qualified candidates are to log-on to the admission portal www.ibbu.edu.ng for verification of their UTME or NCE/Diploma/IJMB and O’Level Results (i.e. WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and Teacher Grade Two) online;

(i) 180 & above for Sciences, Agriculture, Languages, Education & Arts.
(ii) 190 & above for Management and Social Science Courses.
(iii) Direct Entry Candidates who have Upper Credit or its equivalent.

SCREENING EXERCISE
The online screening exercise is in three stages as indicated below:
First Stage: Candidates are required to do the following on the Post UTME Portal: Enter their JAMB Registration Number to confirm if they are eligible. If eligible; they are to choose a menu from a drop down list and enter the number of results they wish to submit for verification (maximum of 2 sittings).
An acknowledgement/confirmation slip will be generated with the following information on it:
i. Candidate JAMB number and Name.
ii. Bank , Account Name and Account Number.
iii. Number of Results and Amount due for payment.

Second Stage: Candidates are to proceed to make payment using the information contained in the acknowledgement slip above.

Third Stage: Candidates who have completed the second stage of the screening should proceed to the third stage after 48 hours of making the stipulated payment by logging in their JAMB Registration Number, teller number and O’/A’ Level results. Candidates are advised to correctly input their results.

NOTE: Candidates results will be screened for eligibility of admission based on the following:

The University has an NUC approved carrying capacity of only 1,700. Therefore, relative merit will be strictly applied in the context of the quality of O’/A’Level Results and UTME Score. Authentication of their O’/A’Level results by the University.

Candidates must have the appropriate credits in subject combination of the Course applied for including English and Mathematics.

All interested candidates must have applied to IBB University, Lapai as Most Preferred (First Choice). Therefore, those who made IBB University second choice need not to register for the screening exercise.

Nekede Poly: Notice on Payment of IT Stipends to Students

The IPC Directorate in Liaison with Industrial Training Fund (ITF) wishes to inform all the students of the funded programmes (Engineering, Sciences, Environmental & Mass communication) who duly and appropriately completed their four months industrial training programme and returned to IPC office their I.T reports, Forms and Log books to submit the following details:

Ten digits bank account number.
Bank current name and sort code.
Correct student matric number and names.
Programme and year of industrial training.

All information must be submitted online on or before two weeks from the date of this notice.

Note that funds have been made available for immediate payment of the accumulated arrears and any student who fails to submit the required information will have himself/herself to blame.

The Polytechnic Ibadan 2014/2015 Post-UTME Screening and Registration Deadline Postponed

The polytechnic Ibadan has postponed the screening exercise till further notice. The examination was scheduled for Monday 21th July 2014 to Saturday 26th July 2014 but candidates that registered late were given several different dates.

The affected candidates visited the school to register their complaint and were addressed by one of the I.C.T officials whom apologized to the candidates on behalf of the school management.

According to the Official the date has been postponed due to the fact that most candidates have not registered; some parents and guardians of candidates have not been paid their monthly salary and they are trying to be considerate.

He stated that school management sent sms to candidates through their mobile numbers and email addresses.For candidates that didn't receive any such sms or mail, the ICT official said it could be as a result of incorrect phone numbers or a problem with the network server.

He further advised candidates to check the school's website for more information as they will be asked to re-print their slip which will contain new examination dates.

This will equally be sent to their phone numbers and email addresses.

If you have not registered before and you wish to do so the portal as been re-opened and registration continues.

ASUP Calls off Strike......

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) has called off the 10 month old strike and has ordered all polytechnics nationwide to resume on Tuesday, 15th July, 2014.

The ASUP strike was called off at the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the union held in Abuja, following an agreement reached by the ASUP management and the new minister for education 2 days ago.

All polytechnic students are by this notice advised to get ready to resume school ASAP.

The ASUP leader said: “The decision to call off the strike is in consonance with the demand of the new Minister of Education, Alhaji Abrahim Shekarau, to allow him study our demands.

“All ASUP is asking for is that government makes commitment on when and how the issues will be resolved.” He did not state whether the Federal Government has however made any commitment before the suspension of the strike.

ASUP went on the strike on October 4, 2013 to press the Federal Government to accede to its 13-point demands which include the release of the White Paper on the Visitation to Federal Polytechnics.
